SPROUTS FEST 2018

When Sprouts invited me to attend Sprouts Fest 2018, I didn’t realize the impact the event would have on my perception of both their company and the brands they associate themselves with. The day was packed with speakers, presentations and activities. We heard from representatives of the Sprouts Foundation, Alaffia, stopped by their tabletop show and attended private vendor presentations with Bobo’s, MegaFood, Foodstirs and Vital Proteins. Here are some of my major takeaways from the day:

  1. Sprouts has their own philanthropic foundation! Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation was founded in 2015. Since then, they have donated over $6M to more than one hundred and thirty nonprofit partners. They focus on empowering kids to live healthier lives by teaching them how to plant, grow and harvest gardens at schools nationwide while incorporating nutrition, gardening and cooking into their curriculum. You can learn more and watch a really heartfelt video about it here.
  2. We heard from Alaffia founder, Olowo-n’djo Tchala about the impact of their affiliation with Sprouts. Their partnership alone has provided hundreds of bikes and thousands of planted shea trees, reading glasses and prenatal care to Africans in Togolese communities. Their goal is to alleviate poverty and encourage gender equality via Empowerment Projects that include several Education-Based Projects, Maternal Health, FGM Eradication, Eyeglasses and Reforestation. The statistics from their projects blew my mind. When it comes to prental care, one in thirty two expecting moms in Togolese communities lose their life to illness, poor hygiene, poor nutrition, etc. In developed contries, this statistic is closer to one in FOUR THOUSAND. Alaffia funds full pre and postnatal care, including special and urgent needs, to women in rural Togo. Read more about their efforts and various projects here.
  3. Sprouts emphasizes partnering with brands who care. They source their products responsibly, prioritize quality and are engaged in broadening employee and customer knowledge. Their mission statement really resonates with me; We believe healthy living is a journey and every meal is a choice. We love to inspire, educate and empower every person to eat healthier and live a better life.
